There is love at home. The Chibyverse is HOME.
Kevin Asaju doesn’t fit in one box, and he’s not trying to. Multimedia storyteller first, with a journalism stint that peaked at CNN Africa before he got bored and chased another love: music.
These days he wears many hats in the industry. Some days he’s an A&R. Other days it’s artist development. Most days, he’s overseeing talent that’s about to be your next obsession.
His entry into music? A classic Lagos sidequest. In 2021, his best friend Lanzii was A&R-ing The Chase, a 7-track project from Chase Music, a small Lagos collective. They needed someone to handle marketing. Kevin had never done it before but he said he could. One day after release, the project hit #1 pop album in Nigeria on Apple Music. That feat earned him his seat at the table.
He led operations at Chase Music for about a year, then launched his own management and talent development agency. And the proudest moment of his last twelve months? Being inducted into the Recording Academy Class of ’26. Yes, that Recording Academy.
But this spotlight isn’t really about Kevin.
Ask him, and he’ll tell you the same.
His Chibyverse story starts around 2019, one Friday at South Eatery & Social House. Friends invited him out. It was lit. “I guess I met and found my tribe that night,” he says.
Seven years of pulling up, and Kevin’s verdict is simple, it’s the safest room in Lagos, the rare place you can truly let your guard down.
The moment you step into the Chibyverse, everything slows down and it feels like home.
A safe space where you don’t need to know anybody to have a good time. Once your vibe is right, you’ll have a ball.
Ask him what brands like The ChibyVerse mean for the Afrobeats ecosystem, and Kevin gets serious.
These rooms put the artist, the art and the audience in one place. They make superstars human again. And in an era where AI artists are doing wild numbers, he believes curated live experiences are the one edge real performers can’t be stripped of.
It’s the gospel he preaches to every emerging act he works with.
Receipts? At The ChibyVerse’s 2023 afro festival with Wande Cole, Fave and more on the bill, a talent he managed with only one record out closed the show right after them.
That was major. Money can’t buy that.
His pitch to any artist wondering if a Chibyverse room is worth it: “If you know your onions, the Chibyverse is your oyster.” Producers, A&Rs, music execs, marketing minds, video directors, industry professionals and most importantly, THE AUDIENCE all in one melting pot, minus the nightclub pressure. He’s personally linked and put on more acts in these rooms than he can count.
So what’s next? Kevin’s answer comes with his whole chest: “Let’s tour, baby!” Chibyverse on the Road. Beyond Lagos. He’s ready.
For the record: The ChibyVerse has already gone on the road Uganda and Ghana with Joeboy, and campuses via the DJ Shawn In Session tour. So Kevin’s dream is less a proposal, more a demand for a sequel.
His three words for a Chibyverse experience: Entertaining. Memorable. Community.
And his final word says it all: to Kevin, The ChibyVerse is a community before it’s a party. “The party is just where we gather.”
The ChibyVerse is… Home for the Culture.
